This spirometry course will discuss obstructive and restrictive disease processes, basic measurements, reference values, repeatability and acceptability, and how to perform a quality procedure. Also discussed is calibration of the spirometer and patterns of abnormal results.
Participants should read the ATS/ERS Task Force Standardisation of Lung Function Testing: Standardisation of Spirometry guideline, the GOLD Spirometry Guide, and the GOLD Spirometry Quick Guide (included for convenience).
Successful completion of this course includes earning a score of 70% or higher on the course post-test.

This chapter will introduce the learner to the course and review obstructive and restrictive disease characteristics. This video is approximately 14 minutes in length. All four chapter videos must be viewed before the test will open.

This chapter will review spirometry values, identify common spirometry mistakes, discuss patterns of results that deviate from the norm, and review the criteria for determining reversibility of disease process with bronchodilator agents. This video is approximately 23 minutes in length.
This chapter will provide learners with an opportunity to challenge their knowledge of spirometry loops to identify quality tests and abnormal disease patterns. This video is approximately 10 minutes in length.
