Chapter 1 provides an overview of the motives and ethics for research in Respiratory Care. It also introduces the scientific method and illustrates methods to develop a study idea.

Chapter 2 will introduce some basic concepts of measurement theory and explain some of the basic measurement tools used in health care research.
Chapter 3 will discuss basic statistical concepts and appropriate application of statistical analysis to clinical research data.
Chapter 4 will discuss where to get ideas for a study and how to review the published literature in the area of interest to see what has already been done.
Chapter 5 will discuss experimental design and writing the research protocol.
