A Guide to Aerosol Delivery Devices for Respiratory Therapists- 5th Edition

Aerosol therapy is a cornerstone of respiratory therapy that exemplifies the nuances of both the art and science of 21st century medicine. As respiratory therapists are the only health care providers who receive extensive formal education and who are tested for competency in aerosol therapy, their ability to manage patients with both acute and chronic respiratory disease as the experts in aerosol therapy allows the concept of “art” and “science” to take on a practical reality.

The fifth edition of this Aerosol Guide delivers detailed and comprehensive information that, when combined with your dedication and commitment to be the professional experts in this important area, will empower you to provide guidance to your physician, nurse, and pharmacist colleagues — but, most importantly, to your patients.

Successful completion of this course requires a score of 70% on the post-test.

This course is sponsored by an unrestricted education grant from Monaghan Medical Corporation.
**Please note that this program requires the participant to view the entire intro video prior to reading the course content, taking the final quiz, and obtaining a course certificate.**

A Guide to Portable Oxygen Concentrators

Over the past several years, there have been some tremendous breakthroughs in the area of long-term oxygen therapy support. One of the most notable is that of the portable oxygen concentrator. Technology can be a boon or it can be a curse. Even though POC technology is still in its infancy, we are already seeing significant performance improvements in this category. Portable oxygen concentrator technology will not only liberate, it will also enable patients with chronic lung diseases to enjoy a higher quality of life by staying more active. Many of us feel that increased activity levels, with supplemental oxygen when needed, will go a long way toward minimizing expensive chronic pulmonary disease exacerbations.

Gaining all the information about your portable oxygen delivery devices (POCs) is essential for high quality management of chronic respiratory diseases with oxygen dependency. Obtaining "A Guide to Portable Oxygen Concentrators" is a good first step in acquiring the knowledge and information to assist your patients. The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) commissioned a survey of all POC manufacturers along with a group of experts to prepare this guide, and it was written with the patient in mind.

Successful completion of this course requires a score of 70% on the post-test.

**Please note that this program requires the participant to view the entire intro video prior to taking the final quiz and obtaining a course certificate.**
2023

Approved for 1.00 CRCE Hours.

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES

Identify special considerations when considering which portable oxygen concentrator is appropriate for individual patients

A Guide to the Nutritional Assessment and Treatment of the Critically Ill Patient, 2nd edition

The AARC developed a nutritional guide for the assessment and treatment of the critically ill patient. As the role of the respiratory therapist emerges in the critical care area to include indirect calorimetry monitoring and testing, this guide will serve as an excellent resource to provide better understanding of the nutritional implications that drive metabolic testing and the subsequent treatment recommendations that come as a result of the extrapolated data. In addition, the role of the respiratory therapist will be discussed as a key and influential member of the interdisciplinary team when it comes to the nutritional management of the critically ill patient. Second edition published in 2021.

Successful completion of this course requires a score of 70% on the post-test.

**Please note that this program requires the participant to view the entire intro video prior to taking the final quiz and obtaining a course certificate.**

Review current recommendations for nutritional support and care of the critically ill
Review methods of determining nutritional requirements by predictive equations and indirect calorimetry

A LOTT of Oxygen: An Update

Long-term oxygen therapy has been proven to improve survival in COPD patients with severely impaired oxygenation. However, does the COPD patient with moderately impaired oxygenation also benefit from supplemental long-term oxygen therapy? The Long-Term Oxygen Treatment Trial (LOTT), a randomized clinical trial published in 2016, was designed to evaluate the efficacy of supplemental oxygen for this patient population. This presentation will discuss the design and results of the multi-center LOTT and the implications on patient care.

Successful completion of this course requires a score of 70% on the post-test.

This webcast is sponsored by an unrestricted educational grant from ResMed Inc.

A Guide to Aerosol Delivery Devices- 4th Edition

Respiratory therapists are the only health care providers who receive extensive formal education and who are tested for competency in aerosol therapy. The RT's ability to serve patients with acute chronic respiratory disease as the expert in aerosol therapy allows the concept of "art" and "science" to take on a practical reality.

Mastery of both the art and science of aerosol delivery can have a profound impact on appropriately matching medications and delivery devices to optimize your patients' clinical outcomes. The fourth edition of this Aerosol Guide delivers detailed and comprehensive information that, when combined with your dedication and commitment to be the professional experts in this important area, will empower you to provide guidance to your physician, nurse, and pharmacist colleagues—but, most importantly, to your patients.

This guide is supported with an educational grant from Philips.

A Guide to the Nutritional Assessment and Treatment of the Critically Ill Patient

Funded through an unrestricted educational grant from GE, the AARC has developed a nutritional guide for the assessment and treatment of the critically ill patient.
