Over the past several years, there have been some tremendous breakthroughs in the area of long-term oxygen therapy support. One of the most notable is that of the portable oxygen concentrator. A LOTT of Oxygen: An Update
Long-term oxygen therapy has been proven to improve survival in COPD patients with severely impaired oxygenation. However, does the COPD patient with moderately impaired oxygenation also benefit from supplemental long-term oxygen therapy? The Long-Term Oxygen Treatment Trial (LOTT), a randomized clinical trial published in 2016, was designed to evaluate the efficacy of supplemental oxygen for this patient population. This presentation will discuss the design and results of the multi-center LOTT and the implications on patient care.

AARC Office Spirometry Certification Program
Spirometry is a common pulmonary function test used to diagnose various pulmonary diseases, like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). These tests can be completed in the physician’s office by non-respiratory therapists, but a quality spirometry test requires training and practice. The AARC Office Spirometry Certificate program provides non-respiratory therapists the necessary education for quality spirometry as well as an opportunity to demonstrate skill in performing the test.
