The fall of 2022 marked an earlier and more severe pediatric viral crisis that most Children’s Hospitals and clinicians had not seen in years. On Nov. 14, 2022 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) declared an emergency to support a national response to the alarming surge of pediatric respiratory illnesses, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). With many Children’s Centers at or past capacity, many pediatric patients with bronchiolitis had to overflow to adult hospitals, urgent cares, and other partnering community Emergency Rooms.
Care for bronchiolitis remains variable between centers. This presentation will define bronchiolitis, discuss its clinical presentation and assessment, and discuss the current evidence for interventions to care for patients with bronchiolitis from mild presentations to critical cases in the PICU.
Successful completion of this course requires a score of 70% on the post-test.
