Pulmonary Function Technology: Spirometry 2026


This spirometry course will discuss obstructive and restrictive disease processes, basic measurements, reference values, repeatability and acceptability, and how to perform a quality procedure. Also discussed is calibration of the spirometer and patterns of abnormal results.

Participants should read the ATS/ERS Task Force Standardization of Lung Function Testing: Standardization of Spirometry guideline, the GOLD Spirometry Guide, and the GOLD Spirometry Quick Guide (included for convenience).

Successful completion of this course includes earning a score of 70% or higher on the course post-test.

Spirometry Values, Patterns of Abnormal Results, and Bronchodilator Response

This chapter will review spirometry values, identify common spirometry mistakes, discuss patterns of results that deviate from the norm, and review the criteria for determining reversibility of disease process with bronchodilator agents. This video is approximately 23 minutes in length.
